Dinosaur Game
Dinosaur

An often-overlooked Easter Egg in Google Chrome is the dinosaur game, which appears when you try to visit a website while disconnected from the Internet. The Chrome dinosaur game is a simple infinite runner, which sees you jump over cacti, and dodge underneath obstacles. Controls are basic.

How to play

Chrome has a hidden endless runner game you can play whenever your computer or phone is offline, but it turns out you can also play it without disconnecting. Controls are basic.

For mobile users, tap on the dinosaur with your finger – then tap the screen to make the dinosaur jump.

For PC users, press space to jump (and to start the game), and the down arrow to duck.

The goal is to survive for as long as humanly (or dinosaurly) possible.

Project Bolan

Initial designs of the dinosaur character were given the codename “Project Bolan,” which itself is a reference to Marc Bolan, the late lead singer of 1970’s glam rock band T-Rex.

The game was released in September 2014, but initially struggled to perform on certain platforms — particularly on older Android devices. This necessitated a rewrite, which was completed by December of that year.

Actually, there’s no ending in the game, but it does reset itself to zero after the player reached the highest possible score (99,999). Dino is an endless runner game.
